Central California Legal Services, Inc. (CCLS) is a reputable organization dedicated to providing high-quality civil legal services to low-income individuals and families in the Valley region. We are currently seeking a skilled Paralegal to join our Health Consumer Center team in Merced.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Health Consumer Center Directing Attorney, collaborating with a team of attorneys, paralegals, and intake clerks to provide advice, counsel, outreach, and representation to clients and the client community dealing with healthcare access, systems, and agencies. Key responsibilities include:

  • Working with CCLS advocates to ensure delivery of high-quality legal representation to clients consistent with CCLS program priorities;
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with client groups and community-based service providers;
  • Identifying and analyzing systemic issues through individual and impact casework;
  • Participating in planning and strategy meetings with project partners and statewide networks of Legal Aid advocates;
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of changes in the law, including continuing legal education, and adhering to CCLS policies and procedures.
Requirements

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, candidates must possess:

  • Experience working with low-income clients, collaborating effectively with diverse groups of individuals and organizations;
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with people with communication barriers;
  • A certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association or equivalent qualifications;
  • Bilingual ability in Hmong/English, Spanish/English, or Punjabi/English is highly desirable but not required;
  • A valid driver's license and proof of liability insurance.
