We are seeking a highly skilled Autonomous Maritime Systems Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our Ocean Systems and Engineering Group, you will play a critical role in advancing the nation's next generation of maritime prototype systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and integrate cutting-edge technical solutions for maritime payloads, autonomous vehicles, acoustic systems, and communications systems.
  • Lead technical studies and develop systems engineering products, including performance specifications, concepts of operation, and system architecture/engineering plans.
  • Collaborate with government, industry, and academic partners to evaluate current strategies, risks, and opportunities for developing and implementing test and evaluation strategies.
  • Support the development of operation and maintenance processes for autonomous systems, including 20% travel to partner organizations.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or scientific field, such as Systems Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Ocean Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience working with maritime systems or a closely related field.
  • Experience generating and performing system test events, as well as maritime platform design and integration.
  • Strong organization and planning skills, with a record of accomplishment in a team environment.
  • Excellent social skills and outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain an interim Secret level security clearance and ultimately a Top Secret level clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in a technical or scientific field.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering tools, language, and methodology.
  • Experience with fielded autonomous systems and an active Top Secret security clearance.
