Job Summary

This is a permanent, full-time position in the Facilities Management department at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration equipment, troubleshooting and repairing mechanical problems, and providing assistance to other facility maintenance technicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration equipment to ensure efficient operation and prevent downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical problems using electrical test devices, blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs.
  • Assist in diagnosing mechanical problems and determine how to correct them.
  • Use standard hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
  • Act as a contributing worker and provide assistance to other facility maintenance technicians.
  • Work with supervision or instruction, and complete work with competence and professionalism in compliance with generally accepted trade practices.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, and managers, and provide high-quality customer service based on University policy and procedures.
  • Record daily activities in an order tracking system (CMMS).
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • E.P.A. 608 Refrigerant certification.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension).
  • Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
  • Computer literate.
  • Knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.
  • Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds.
  • Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree from an accredited institution preferred in HVAC or Engineering Technology.
  • Experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
Working Conditions

This position is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
