Benefits and HR Generalist Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Benefits and HR Generalist to manage the day-to-day administration of our company's benefit programs. This role is crucial in maintaining benefit documentation, ensuring compliance with Federal and State laws, and providing hands-on support in HR areas such as recruiting, employee relations, onboarding, training, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Benefits Administration: Oversee benefit documents, communicate benefit information to employees, and ensure compliance with relevant Federal and State laws (e.g., ERISA, COBRA, ADA).
  • New Hire Orientation: Provide new hires with benefits information, conduct benefit orientations, and assist with enrollment procedures.
  • Employee & Vendor Communication: Act as the main point of contact for employees and vendors, resolving benefits issues, answering questions, and providing guidance.
  • Recruitment Coordination: Manage the recruiting process, including creating job ads, managing online postings/ATS, scheduling interviews, administering assessments, extending offers, and preparing new hire paperwork.
  • Employee Relations: Provide employee relations support to both employees and managers, including conflict resolution and HR advice.
  • HR Budget Support: Assist the HR Manager in managing the departmental budget and conducting annual compensation studies with outside consultants.
  • Leave Management: Track and manage employee leaves of absence, ensuring compliance with relevant policies.
  • Training & Development: Develop and deliver HR training programs on topics such as open enrollment, performance evaluations, and HR best practices.
  • 401K & Benefits Administration: Assist with the administration of 401K plans and benefits enrollment.
  • HR Reporting: Generate HR reports as needed, supporting key business and compliance initiatives.
  • Compliance: Maintain knowledge of employment law and ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations; assist in continuous improvement of HR processes and policies.
  • HR Improvement Initiatives: Participate in initiatives to improve HR functions, metrics, and outcomes across the organization.
  • Confidentiality & File Management: Maintain confidentiality and ensure the accuracy of HR files and records.
Requirements:
  • HR Experience: Proven experience as an HR Generalist, with a strong background in benefits administration and employee relations.
  • Knowledge of HR Policies: Solid understanding of HR policies and employment laws, including ERISA, COBRA, ADA, and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO).
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong aptitude for analyzing HR processes, data, and trends to identify solutions and improvements.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships across teams.
  • Bilingual: Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  • Technology Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and HRIS software.
  • Customer Service Skills: Ability to deliver excellent customer service and maintain confidentiality in all HR matters.
  • Professionalism: Strong work ethic, integrity, and desire to take initiative in solving problems.
Education and Experience:
  • Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of experience in an HR Generalist role and at least 5 years of benefits administration experience.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Certifications: PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification is preferred.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in the construction or related industries is a plus.

Physical Requirements:
