The Registered Behavior Technician will be responsible for providing behavioral support services to students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Other Health Impairments, and/or other behavioral and social/communication challenges at the Julie Billiart Network School campuses primarily in Brecksville.

This position reports to the Chief Schools Officer and requires travel between campuses as needed.

Summary

Julie Billiart Schools is a network of schools serving children grades K-8 with special learning challenges. We have campuses in Akron, Lyndhurst, and Westlake that offer unique learning environments for students with autism, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and social learning challenges.

We are a Catholic, non-public school that respects diverse faith traditions.

Job Purpose

The primary function of the Registered Behavior Technician is to provide behavioral support service delivery options to meet the needs of students with ASD, Other Health Impairments, and/or other behavioral and social/communication challenges.

The Registered Behavior Technician will work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to implement behavior support plans for students that require consistent and behavioral support during the school day.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provides assistance to behavioral therapists in developing behavioral therapy programs
  2. Assesses student needs and provides interventions to redirect behavior
  3. Collects and submits data needed for Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)
  4. Maintains highly organized, consistent, thorough, and systematic record-keeping practices
  5. Provides consultation, training, and assistance to instructional team members in strategies and methodologies for working with students who have behavioral, adaptive, and/or social/communication challenges
  6. Conducts in-service training, workshops, and presentations to develop skills and establish consistent practices throughout the students' school experience
  7. When required, provides physical intervention for students demonstrating unsafe behaviors
  8. Participates in yearly crisis intervention training provided by Julie Billiart Schools
  9. Seeks creative options for ensuring continuity and consistency of treatment and support services across settings
  10. Conducts structured periodic service reviews to monitor the effectiveness of treatment programs and their implementation; modifies and documents plan changes as needed
  11. Collaborates with families as appropriate
  12. Participates in continuing education and professional development and other training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to the assignment
  13. Reviews current developments, changing legal requirements, and technical sources of information related to job responsibility
  14. Participates in professional growth activities such as team meetings and program visitations
  15. Performs other tasks and duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Chief Schools Officer
RequirementsEducation Required

Minimum of high school diploma as well as formal training in Behavioral Support Interventions

Experience

A minimum of two years recent experience working with individuals who have behavioral and social/communication challenges

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of early childhood and autism assessment tools and procedures and thorough knowledge of child development

Experience developing positive behavior support plans and programs; experience teaching social interaction and play skills

Knowledge of current methods and techniques of applied behavior analysis and discrete trial training; ability to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, and professionals; competence in analyzing assessment results, designing appropriate individual treatment plans and behavioral programs, and monitoring progress

Must be able to work effectively as a team member, demonstrate flexibility, and desire to learn new skills and improve professional qualifications

QualificationsRequired

Strong communication skills to work with a diverse team

Basic computer skills and ability to use required software

Ability to problem-solve and assist in decision making, including during emergencies

Ability to follow and practice policies related to proper procedures for restraint and seclusion

Work productively to develop relationships with students, families, and other support personnel

Proven creative abilities, strong organizational and time management skills

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills

Maintain a high level of organization for file maintenance and record-keeping

Working Conditions

The work of the Registered Behavior Technician requires movement to a variety of locations within the school.
