About the Role

Muskegon Community College, a leading institution of higher education, is seeking qualified candidates for Adjunct Instructors in the Workforce Development department. As a part-time faculty member, you will play a crucial role in shaping the educational experience of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Teach assigned courses, including day, night, and online classes, at the main campus and extension centers.
  2. Establish and promote an effective learning environment that maximizes student learning.
  3. Prepare, submit, and maintain reports related to student learning.
  4. Grade assignments in a meaningful way, returning graded assignments to students in a timely manner, and assign final grades for all students, meeting or beating all institutional deadlines for completion.
  5. Provide educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled and posted times (i.e., office hours) or by appointment.
  6. Encourage student opinion survey completion for each class and review the summary information to assist with increasing student success.
  7. Maintain levels of professional knowledge and expertise, including compliance training or hours.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Master's Degree in the discipline or 18 credits in the specific discipline.
  • Years of experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • Related content training experience is preferred.
  • Prefer teaching experience at the college level.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in at least one of the following areas: fabrication, quality manufacturing, robotics, electronics, machining and CNC, CAD, business computer programs and software, foundry, safety, and MIG/TIG/Arch Welding.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures.
  • Experience with instructional technology is preferred.

The physical and mental demands of this role include:

  • Mental demands: detailed work, student contact, deadline-oriented, problem situations, multiple priorities and demands, emergency situations, confidentiality, on-call availability, continual interruptions, working alone, faculty contact, and working with others.
  • Physical demands: standing and walking, sitting, carrying, lifting up to 10 lbs., up to 25 lbs., up to 50 lbs., 80 + lbs., pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, squatting, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talking or hearing, tasting/smelling, working overhead, speak in English via phone or in person, close, distance, peripheral, and color vision along with depth perception, ability to adjust and focus.
Work Environment

The work environment for this role includes:

  • Exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat/cold, and moderate to loud noise levels.
  • Normal office environment with little, if any, discomfort due to heat, dust, noise, and the like. Ability to travel to all campus locations is required.
