Position Overview

The role of the Adjunct Instructor for Percussion and Drumline is a part-time, exempt position focused on leading the SNU Drumline during the fall semester. The selected individual will also be responsible for teaching applied percussion lessons and directing ensembles throughout both the fall and spring semesters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all functions of the Drumline in collaboration with the Marching Band and its Director.
  • Manage the Frontline for Marching Band performances.
  • Instruct applied percussion lessons for both music majors and non-majors.
  • Provide drum set instruction to students across various disciplines.
  • Direct the Percussion Ensemble.
  • Engage in recruitment efforts for music majors and non-major ensemble participants.
  • Assist the Director of Bands in coordinating Drumline participation at athletic events.
  • Enhance the visibility of the program within local and regional contexts to attract prospective students.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A graduate degree in music.
  • Experience in Marching Band settings.
  • Proficiency in drum set performance.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
  • A commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.
  • A personal faith in Jesus Christ and alignment with the mission of Southern Nazarene University.

Preferred:

  • Successful teaching experience in higher education.
  • Proven track record in recruiting for a private studio.
  • Professional performance background.

Supervision

The position reports to the Director of Bands and involves coordination of students engaged in the Drumline, Frontline, and Percussion Ensemble.
