SUMMARY
The Fleet Maintenance Assistant plays a crucial role within EMCOR Government Services. Under the guidance of the Fleet Manager, this position is tasked with conducting fleet inspections, executing basic maintenance tasks, and performing preventative diagnostics and repairs. Additional responsibilities include transporting vehicles, detailing light vehicles, and outfitting fleet units. The individual will work closely with warehouse staff, management, and external vendors to ensure that all job functions are carried out effectively and efficiently.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting routine inspections, such as brake checks, tire assessments, fluid level evaluations, electrical testing, and engine diagnostics.
- Performing basic maintenance tasks, including oil changes, servicing, brake repairs, electrical fixes, battery replacements, tune-ups, and transmission services.
- Diagnosing and repairing small gasoline and diesel engines, including generators, compressors, and forklifts.
- Transporting vehicles to and from external repair facilities.
- Delivering vehicles to their assigned drivers as needed.
- Building and outfitting new fleet vehicles with necessary equipment, such as toolboxes, inverters, and alarm systems.
- Accurately installing and removing vehicle logos and decals.
- Detailing fleet vehicles as required.
- Tracking and reporting parts usage, while maintaining an adequate inventory of necessary components.
- Inspecting trucks for defects before and after trips and submitting reports on vehicle conditions.
- Assisting in loading and unloading trucks when necessary.
- Maintaining accurate inventory records.
- Working a standard 40-hour week, with the possibility of overtime.
- Adhering to all traffic regulations and representing the company positively.
- Regular attendance is mandatory.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Must enroll with the union.
- Ability to pass a drug screening.
- Willingness to learn and operate company tools and materials.
REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES
- One year of hands-on experience in the automotive repair sector.
- Completion of one year of automotive courses or technical training, or equivalent experience.
- Must possess a clean driving record.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of vehicle maintenance operations and OBD2 systems.
- Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and commitment to company values.
- Ability to foster positive working relationships with employees, management, customers, and partners.
- Detail-oriented and safety-conscious.
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Effective communication skills in English are essential, along with the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, including customers, employees, unions, and vendors.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical requirements for this position include the ability to commute to various job sites and navigate around them effectively.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role may involve outdoor work and exposure to various environmental conditions, including humidity, dust, fumes, and extreme temperatures. The noise level in the warehouse may range from moderate to loud.
