Job Title: Code Enforcement Officer

Join the City of Killeen, TX team as a Code Enforcement Officer and play a vital role in ensuring the community's safety and well-being.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to perform a variety of routine and complex technical work in code enforcement, building and property inspection. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with city codes, ordinances, and regulations, and will work closely with various departments to achieve this goal.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct systematic site inspections of properties and building structures to ensure compliance with all applicable city codes and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform inspection and enforcement of violations to buildings, structures, and premises within the city, to ensure that all building, zoning, nuisance and other codes and ordinances are followed.
  • Coordinate with Planning, Building Inspections, Environmental, Police, Fire, Solid Waste, and other departments to secure compliance with city codes when enforcement becomes necessary.
  • Investigate citizen complaints of code violations, obvious violations observed during site inspections; determine appropriate action to be taken; research and locate property ownership information, County Tax Assessor's parcel information, mortgage holders, and interested parties.
  • Issue warnings, letters, and citations as appropriate; conduct follow-up inspections and take additional actions until cases are resolved and closed.
  • Develop and maintain detailed case files through Code Enforcement software system and case log; maintain complete records of all cases including ownership information, all communications and actions taken with names, dates, and times.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in code enforcement, general construction, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of code enforcement principles, practices, and methods as applicable to local government.
  • Ability to utilize all electronic equipment associated with position, such as: field and desk top computer, Microsoft Office and Code Enforcement Software, copier, and independently prepare routine correspondence and memorandums.
  • Ability to work well and communicate with the public, abatement contractors, and co-workers in a positive and effective manner either orally or in writing communication.
