Job Description

The RN Student Nurse Extern PRN Intermediate Care Unit plays a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and support to patients and their families at Johnston-Willis Hospital. As a valued member of our interdisciplinary team, you will assist licensed nurses in providing direct patient care, develop individualized care plans, and collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality patient care under the supervision of licensed nurses, including administering medications, performing vital signs, and assisting with mobility and transfers, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans that address the unique needs of each patient, incorporating input from healthcare providers and family members when necessary.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care and coordinate discharge planning, including referrals to specialists and community resources, ensuring seamless transitions.
  • Educate patients and families on health education topics, such as disease management, wound care, and medication adherence, using visual aids and other resources as needed.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing and able to perform higher-level procedures once competency is achieved, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing learning and professional growth.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare teams, adapting communication styles to meet the needs of diverse populations.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve quality patient outcomes, prioritizing tasks and managing time efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
