Job Summary

The Psychiatric Technician plays a vital role in the Behavioral Health team at Atrium Health, assisting Registered Nurses in providing exceptional care to patients with psychiatric or chemically dependent needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Observe and report changes in patient behavior to the charge nurse, ensuring timely interventions and documentation.
  • Engage with patients therapeutically, promoting a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
  • Participate in social and recreational activities, group therapy, and patient teaching groups, fostering a sense of community and connection among patients.
  • Utilize CPI techniques effectively, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
  • Maintain regular rounds on assigned patients, ensuring their needs are met and concerns addressed.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changing workloads and priorities.
  • Respond to patients with empathy and respect, upholding their dignity and confidentiality.
  • Contribute to unit-based process improvement activities and participate in committees, driving positive change and excellence in care.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Relevant patient care experience in a hospital setting preferred.
  • Excellent therapeutic communication skills essential.
  • CPI certification required within 90 days of hire date.
  • BLS certification required per policy guidelines.
