Role of the Registered Nurse (RN)
Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering professional nursing care to patients, adhering to established standards and guidelines.
The RN must consider the physical, psychological, and spiritual needs of patients and actively participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Compliance with the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards, is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate patient care plans in accordance with established protocols.
- Assess patient and family needs, providing education and resources as necessary.
- Prepare and administer treatments as directed by a physician.
- Administer medications and blood products accurately, ensuring proper dosages and techniques.
- Ensure all necessary pre-authorizations and consent forms are completed prior to treatment.
- Assess and modify treatment dosages based on patient evaluations and lab results.
- Perform venipuncture and manage central line access.
- Maintain precise documentation of patient care and treatments.
- Understand reimbursement processes and ensure accurate charge capture.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Level 1:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program, BSN preferred.
- Current RN license and registration with the state nursing board.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- 0-3 years of nursing experience, with a preference for oncology experience.
Level 2 (in addition to Level 1 requirements):
- 3-5 years of nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology.
Level Sr (in addition to Level 1 and 2 requirements):
- Five years of nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology.
Working Conditions:
The work environment may involve exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions typical of an oncology clinic.
Physical Requirements:
This role requires physical stamina, including the ability to lift patients and stand for extended periods. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
