Key Responsibilities:
The role involves delivering direct patient care to individuals experiencing communication and swallowing challenges. This includes:
- Adhering to Kaiser Permanente's policies and relevant regulations.
- Conducting diagnostic assessments and providing tailored treatment for both adults and children with various communication disorders, including voice and swallowing difficulties.
- Collaborating with physicians to discuss test outcomes and recommend suitable treatment plans.
- Monitoring patient progress and adjusting treatment strategies as necessary.
- Participating as a consultant within interdisciplinary teams.
- Providing specialized expertise in areas such as pediatric speech therapy and traumatic brain injury rehabilitation.
- Training Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) candidates.
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable standards and regulations.
- Contributing to the development of departmental policies and procedures.
- Creating and implementing treatment protocols within specialized fields.
- Delivering in-service training programs in the area of expertise.
- Performing comprehensive clinical swallowing evaluations across a diverse patient demographic.
- Interpreting and communicating evaluation results to medical staff and families.
- Designing and executing therapy programs tailored to address speech, language, voice, and swallowing issues.
- Maintaining accurate documentation of patient progress and treatment plans.
- Adapting programs to enhance effectiveness and meet patient needs.
- Conducting diagnostic voice assessments for a varied patient population.
- Providing recommendations for further evaluations or services as necessary.
- Administering and analyzing tests to assess communicative abilities, taking into account medical history and relevant test results.
- Treating a range of speech and language disorders, including articulatory issues, stuttering, and organic disorders.
- Communicating findings and treatment plans to patients and their families, offering guidance and support.
- Planning and implementing remedial programs aimed at improving communicative abilities.
- Documenting diagnostic findings, therapy interventions, and patient progress.
- Providing training in speech therapy fundamentals to healthcare staff and supervising Speech Pathology Assistants.
- Staying updated on advancements in speech therapy through professional development opportunities.
- Fostering collaborative relationships with other departments and personnel.
- Demonstrating expertise in assessing patient conditions and planning effective treatment strategies.
- Exhibiting professional competence in rehabilitative techniques specific to speech pathology.
- Effectively communicating with patients and staff.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience in dysphagia management and Speech Pathology.
- Education: Master's or Doctorate Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: Current California Speech Pathologist license, BLS certification from the American Heart Association, and National Provider Identifier (NPI) prior to employment.
Additional Skills:
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements at federal, state, and local levels.
- Ability to apply theories and practices of Speech Therapy effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- N/A
Notes:
- Availability for weekday and weekend outpatient/inpatient coverage.
- Experience in dysphagia, with a preference for outpatient adult, pediatric, and Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) experience.
