Position Overview

The After School Program Coordinator will oversee and execute the daily functions of an after-school initiative at Takoma Elementary School. This program will include academic support, enrichment activities, family involvement, community service initiatives, and workshops focused on positive youth development. Additionally, the coordinator will play a key role in the planning and execution of a summer program component. The position will primarily be based at the school and will involve recruiting participants, collaborating with essential school personnel, and facilitating daily academic and enrichment activities with the help of an AmeriCorps member.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement an engaging, academically oriented after-school program at Takoma Elementary School.
  • Create an environment conducive to student learning.
  • Track and assess student academic progress.
  • Design and execute project-based curricula for enrichment activities.
  • Organize and facilitate 3-5 field trips throughout the fiscal year.
  • Collaborate with partners and school staff to coordinate family engagement events.
  • Supervise a team of 2-3 individuals, including AmeriCorps members and volunteers.
  • Manage the youth intake and enrollment process, ensuring compliance with all documentation requirements.
  • Conduct data collection and maintain records in the LAYC integrated data management system.
  • Assist youth and their families with referrals for food, basic needs, and language access.
  • Act as LAYC's representative with school administrators and staff.
  • Work collaboratively with other LAYC site supervisors to support youth across all educational programs.

EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED; an associate degree or higher is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in youth development.
  • A strong passion for education and youth development.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position is primarily sedentary, requiring the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 10 lbs. Local and/or regional travel may be necessary.
