About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Kitchen Assistant to join our team at Gateway Foundation. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness and organization of our kitchen and dining areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Properly clean and sanitize dishes, glassware, utensils, pots and pans, and food preparation and serving areas.
  • Operate and sanitize dishwashers, juice machines, coffee makers, and other kitchen equipment, and notify supervisors of equipment repairs.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas, assist with food preparation, and perform other related kitchen duties as needed.
  • Under supervision, wash and prepare food for cooking in accordance with sanitation requirements.
  • Serve food from the steam tables to clients according to prescribed measures, and ensure proper portion control.
  • Wrap, label, date, and refrigerate leftovers after each meal according to established procedures or instructions.
  • Perform other related kitchen duties, such as inventorying and stocking food products and supplies, sorting and removing trash, sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing floors.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Food Handlers or Protection Manager Certificate.
  • 3 to 6 months of experience, demonstrated knowledge of basic dishwasher operations at a level normally acquired through on-the-job training or experience.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds regularly, and up to 60 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to stand stationary up to four hours at a time regularly, and up to seven hours frequently.
  • Ability to walk or move about for more than six hours at a time.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, reach, and grab.
  • Normal or corrected vision necessary to read measurements of cleaning detergents, equipment cleaning instructions, and measure or portion food items.
