Job Overview

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the machine shop's operations, ensuring efficient and effective production processes. This role involves scheduling and planning production activities, managing shop personnel, and coordinating with internal sales teams and customers to meet quality and delivery expectations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machining, production management, and excellent communication and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Production Management:
    • Oversee daily operations of the machine shop, ensuring all production schedules are met.
    • Develop and implement production plans and schedules to meet customer demands and company goals.
    • Monitor workflow and adjust schedules as necessary to optimize productivity and efficiency.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Manage and lead a team of machinists, operators, and support staff.
    • Provide training, mentorship, and performance evaluations to ensure high levels of competency and morale among staff.
    • Foster a safe and productive work environment, adhering to all safety regulations and company policies.
  • Scheduling and Planning:
    • Create detailed production schedules, balancing the capacity of machines, labor, and materials.
    • Coordinate with procurement to ensure materials and components are available when needed.
    • Identify and address potential bottlenecks or delays in the production process.
  • Customer and Sales Coordination:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact between the machine shop, internal sales team, and customers.
    • Work closely with salespeople to understand customer requirements and timelines, ensuring these are communicated effectively to the production team.
    • Address any customer concerns or issues related to production, delivery, and quality, providing timely and effective solutions.
  • Quality Control:
    • Ensure all products meet or exceed quality standards before delivery.
    • Work with the quality control team to implement and maintain quality assurance processes.
    • Address any quality issues promptly, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
    • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in machining and production management.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in a production management role, preferably within a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, materials, and equipment.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in production scheduling, planning, and resource management.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both internal teams and external customers.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Familiarity with quality control processes and standards.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications (e.g., ERP systems, CAD/CAM software).
Compensation

The estimated annual salary for this position is approximately $85,000 - $110,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
