We are seeking a skilled Vascular Sonographer to join our team at Inova Fairfax Medical Center's Echo Lab, an advanced imaging center with a strong emphasis on clinical excellence, education, innovation, and research.

Job Overview

As a Vascular Sonographer, you will administer sound patient care practices according to hospital and department policies/procedures to ensure patient safety. You will also demonstrate safety for patients, staff, and self as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with patients to obtain clinical history/informed consent, ensuring the physician has the necessary information to optimize the performance and interpretation of the examination.
  • Explain procedures to patients/families, answer questions, and ease anxiety, ensuring patient cooperation.
  • Assist physicians in performing various examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and/or sterile technique.
  • Recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome.
  • Properly administer IV contrast and other test-enhancing solutions, adhering to Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Standards.
  • Track patients according to department procedures, identify errors, and take immediate action for corrections.
  • Care for and maintain patient-related equipment, following established department policies.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of echo vascular principles/theory, anatomy, and pathology processes, utilizing the most appropriate techniques and/or positioning for optimal examinations.
Requirements
  • Certification: Basic Life Support upon start; Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) Registered with RDCS Certification or CCI Registered with certification for Vascular or Registry eligible and must obtain within one year.
  • Licensure: None required.
  • Experience: Recent experience in a hospital/healthcare environment as a sonographer or sonography student.
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited school/program of diagnostic medical sonography or five years specialized training in a hospital/healthcare setting.
