MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline with at least seven (7) years of experience in managing servers and SAN storage within an enterprise VMWare framework;

-AND-

One (1) year of experience overseeing a production server in a cloud computing environment such as Azure, Amazon AWS, Google Cloud, or equivalent for a large organization;

-AND-

Possession of one or more of the following certifications: Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), CompTIA Server+, or VMware Certified Professional Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV);

-OR-

An Associate degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience managing servers and SAN storage in an enterprise VMWare environment;

-AND-

One (1) year of experience managing a production server in a cloud computing environment such as Azure, Amazon AWS, Google Cloud, or similar for an enterprise employer;

-AND-

One or more of the following certifications: Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), CompTIA Server+, or VMware Certified Professional Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Certifications and job-related training will be necessary and may change periodically as determined by the Chief Information Officer.

Must be available to respond 24/7 to address system issues as needed.

GENERAL DUTIES: This role involves specialized tasks including the design, installation, administration, and optimization of servers, storage, and related components to ensure high reliability and performance. Responsibilities include ensuring application availability, configuring new implementations, and developing processes for ongoing server management. The role also involves ensuring the physical security, integrity, and safety of data, servers, and backup media; participating in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all host hardware, software, and communication links; leading and coordinating various research and implementation projects while utilizing proper documentation and task management skills; and working under the supervision of the Chief Information Officer or designated staff member.

KEY TASKS:
  • Plan, design, test, implement, and troubleshoot enterprise server and storage systems;
  • Implement and maintain security solutions;
  • Ensure adherence to security practices, including monthly software patching, firmware updates, and daily system log reviews;
  • Create and maintain documentation related to configuration, processes, service records, and security settings;
  • Conduct on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex system issues, recommending and implementing corrective actions;
  • Develop business continuity and disaster recovery plans, maintaining current knowledge of executable plans;
  • Respond to emergency outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery protocols;
  • Monitor the performance of managed systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability;
  • Provide training and written documentation for support personnel, including Help Desk staff, computer technicians, trainers, internal/external customers, and management;
  • Manage and/or provide guidance to subordinates;
  • Draft technical specifications for the procurement of server hardware and software products;
  • Engage and negotiate with vendors and contractors to secure software, products, and services;
  • Assist in researching relevant technology products, services, protocols, and standards to stay updated on developments in the networking industry;
  • Attend training seminars, conferences, and trade shows to enhance knowledge of current and future technologies.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Highly self-motivated and directed with strong leadership capabilities;
  • Ability to supervise staff and work effectively in a team environment;
  • Knowledge and configuration of Microsoft Windows Server operating systems;
  • Knowledge and configuration of Unix/Linux system administration;
  • Understanding of IT security best practices;
  • Knowledge and configuration of SAN systems;
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery systems;
  • Knowledge and configuration of database systems;
  • Expertise in server virtualization;
  • Knowledge and configuration of servers and storage in a cloud computing environment;
  • Experience with Powershell scripting;
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in high-stress environments;
  • Capacity to conduct research across a broad range of computing issues;
  • Aptitude for analyzing, designing, and architecting appropriate technology solutions;
  • Commitment to continuous learning;
