THE POSITION

The Ventura Water department is currently seeking qualified candidates for the role of Environmental Biologist.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Environmental Biologist will operate under the guidance of the Wastewater Utility Manager, taking charge of planning, coordinating, developing, assessing, and executing environmental mitigation initiatives to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations, policies, and laws relevant to Ventura Water. This role also entails managing mitigation concerns on behalf of the City. Furthermore, the Environmental Biologist will oversee and conduct field monitoring research, data gathering, surveys, statistical evaluations, and the preparation of technical documentation. When necessary, this position will also coordinate environmental assessments. The Environmental Biologist will supervise a team of environmental consultants focusing on estuary monitoring, budget formulation, and financial oversight.

WHO WE SEEK
The ideal candidate will possess proven experience or the capability to compile and analyze diverse data sets, summarize findings, and execute rigorous quality assurance and control measures. They should have a strong emphasis on technical report writing and review, a solid understanding of field observation techniques, sample collection, and the ability to manage contractor activities and multiple contracts. A thorough knowledge of coastal estuary species, habitats, and relevant State and Federal laws regarding protected and endangered species is essential. Additionally, familiarity with water and wastewater processes, analysis, and environmental permits is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should have a combination of education, training, and/or experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, or a closely related discipline, along with two years of professional experience in environmental planning and biological impact assessment. Relevant experience includes research, analysis, preparation, and/or evaluation of environmental reports or biological studies concerning environmental issues and/or the execution of habitat restoration projects. Experience with coastal estuary species, processes, and permits is preferred.
