Job Overview

SUMMARY

The Certified Medication Technician plays a crucial role in assisting residents with their daily living activities and providing direct care under the supervision of nursing and medical personnel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

________ 75% Resident Care – Medication Management

Responsible for the precise preparation, administration, and documentation of all prescribed medications and treatments. Ensures adherence to facility protocols while respecting resident autonomy and dignity. Monitors residents attentively, identifying any concerns, evolving needs, changes in conditions, reactions to medications, and instances of medication refusal, which must be promptly communicated to the supervising nurse.

________ 25% Resident Care - Daily Living Support

Assists with Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) duties based on individual resident needs and preferences. Completes daily documentation regarding residents' activities of daily living (ADLs), behaviors, and more. Provides tailored dining experiences to residents, catering to their specific needs and preferences.

Our Certified Medication Technicians are also expected to assist or perform CNA duties when requested by the facility.

QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The qualifications outlined below represent the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Completion of a Certified Nurse Assistant Program recognized by the State of Kansas, along with current certification.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must possess adequate communication skills to understand and address the needs of all residents. Ability to read and comprehend written instructions regarding resident care and document residents' responses to treatments is essential.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to establish rapport with residents, family members, and facility staff while exhibiting kindness and understanding in challenging situations. Certified Nursing Assistants work closely with all members of the facility team, honoring resident and family preferences through support, friendship, kindness, sincerity, communication, and relationship building.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Certified Nursing Assistants often encounter heavy workloads, requiring physical activity to fulfill daily responsibilities. The ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, reach, stretch, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs. is necessary. Universal precautions must be utilized in all situations. Proficiency in operating office equipment and various mobility devices (wheelchair, walker, gait belt, mechanical lift, etc.) used for residents is required. These tasks must be performed with normal visual range, acuity, color perception, and the ability to distinguish letters and numbers. Strong oral communication skills, clarity in speech, and attentive listening with appropriate hearing acuity are essential.

As a Certified Nursing Assistant, one may be in close contact with individuals who have infectious diseases. Exposure to toxic, harmful, or potentially hazardous substances is also a possibility. Certified Nursing Assistants may encounter loud noises, unhygienic conditions, and cleaning supplies, and will perform tasks such as emptying trash and changing soiled linens. Adherence to strict guidelines to prevent disease and other hazards is required, including the use of protective equipment when necessary. Certified Nursing Assistants must also work closely with residents, guests, and families in emotionally charged environments.
