Job Summary

The Lynwood Unified School District is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Foster Care/McKinney Vento Case Manager to join our team. As a key member of our student support services department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the academic and personal success of homeless youth throughout the district.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate services for identified homeless youth, ensuring all necessary resources are provided to support their academic and personal success.
  • Collaborate with individual school sites, families, students, and community members to provide information on programs and services available to homeless youth.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies and organizations to expand program capabilities and build resources.
  • Conduct home visits and parent meetings to identify and address barriers to finding permanent housing and provide recommendations for family resources.
  • Direct the McKinney-Vento Homeless Children and Youth program throughout the district and community, working closely with shelter providers and various agencies and non-profit groups.
  • Facilitate meetings with internal and external personnel and groups related to homeless youth services and programs.
  • Maintain confidential and nonconfidential files and records to document and analyze student needs, progress, and services.
  • Oversee the referral process of students and student families to internal district resources and external professional and community organizations.
  • Perform assigned personnel functions, including supervising, training, and providing work direction and guidance to staff.
  • Prepare complex qualitative, quantitative, and narrative data and information to document activities and provide written reference.
  • Provide case management to homeless youth to evaluate the progress of student intervention plans and ensure the specific needs of the student are met.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a job-related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in a job-related field.
  • Valid California driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Conflict resolution techniques.
  • Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Project planning and management.
  • Data analysis.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity to issues facing children, youth, families, and the community.

Responsibility:

This position requires working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods, managing a department, and supervising the use of funds.

Work Environment:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity.
