Sanitation Plant Operator:
Responsible for operating and maintaining a water or sewage treatment facility to ensure the safety of the plant's effluent for human consumption or environmental protection.
Custodian:
1. Maintain cleanliness of buildings and removal of refuse. 2. Perform minor repairs. 3.
Assist in instructional duties and provide direct or indirect supervision of students under the guidance of a principal, teacher, or designated professional educator.
NATURE OF THE WORK: Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot the wastewater treatment facility and its processes. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with state and federal operating regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Regularly inspect tank walls to ensure they are sufficiently elevated to prevent surface water intrusion. Visually assess the color and appearance of activated sludge in the aeration chamber. Ensure the motor-blower unit operates effectively and that air distribution is uniform throughout the tank. Verify the spray pump functions properly and that all nozzles are unobstructed. Monitor the sludge air lift pump for proper operation and confirm the discharge pipe is adequately filled. Adjust the air lift skimmer height as necessary and check clarifier liquid surfaces for debris, returning any floating material to the aeration chamber. Maintain cleanliness by removing trash and weeds from the facility's vicinity. Conduct routine checks of the chlorinator and refill chlorine solution as needed.
Perform maintenance tasks such as checking oil levels in equipment, inspecting electrical connections, and ensuring all machinery operates correctly. Document treatment processes and prepare reports for governing agencies as required. Other duties may be assigned by the Chief of Operations of Administrative Services.
WORK REQUIREMENTS: Ability to perform and document various tests mandated by State and Federal agencies for wastewater treatment operations. Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and equipment maintenance is essential. Must possess a thorough understanding of mechanical systems and the capability to diagnose and rectify equipment issues. Familiarity with safety regulations and the ability to work independently are also required.
