Job Title: Production Manager

Job Summary:

The Dyson Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Production Manager to oversee the daily operations of the machine shop. This role is responsible for managing workflow, ensuring quality control, coordinating with other departments, and maintaining safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Production Oversight:
    • Manage day-to-day operations of the machine shop, including scheduling, workflow, and personnel assignments to meet production targets.
    • Monitor production processes to ensure efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery of finished products.
    • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., engineering, purchasing, maintenance) to coordinate activities and resolve production-related issues.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Supervise, mentor, and train machine shop personnel, ensuring adherence to company policies and safety protocols.
    • Set performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews for direct reports.
    • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Quality Control:
    • Ensure all products meet quality standards through effective inspection and quality assurance processes.
    • Work closely with the quality assurance department to troubleshoot any production defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Production Planning & Scheduling:
    • Maintain production schedules to meet customer demands while optimizing resources and reducing downtime.
    • Review production schedules and adjust them as needed to meet deadlines and address any bottlenecks or disruptions.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify and mitigate risks.
    • Implement and promote best practices in workplace safety.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions.
    • Participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Reporting & Metrics:
    • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as efficiency and productivity.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience in a similar role may be considered.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Technical Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of CNC machinery, machining processes, and production planning.
    • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling software.
    • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies is preferred.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a track record of improving operational efficiency.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing environment.
  • May require occasional overtime or shift work to meet production deadlines.
  • Able to understand and interpret mechanical drawings including tolerances.
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment within the machine shop.
  • Ensures production, safety and quality procedures are being followed.
  • Ability to evaluate and initiate purchase of required tools and materials according to schedule and must be able to organize general inventory.
  • Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions recommending action.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and maintain a relationship with external and internal customers.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by calling for repairs, evaluating new equipment and techniques.
