A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is required to administer nursing care to designated patients under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to effectively interact with patients, family members, visitors, and staff members.
Responsibilities- Assume responsibility for patient assignments and contribute to universal unit activities, including responding to call lights and telephones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.
- Observe and record patient symptoms, condition, and/or reactions to medications and treatments, and report results to the RN in charge.
- Provide appropriate, direct patient care, including giving injections, taking vital signs, performing basic diagnostic tests, observing patients, dressing wounds, and administering medication.
- Establish effective communication strategies and participate in health care conferences.
- Take action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance based on feedback or on self-identified developmental needs.
- Suggest and support changes within the department and communicate effectively with patients and families about hospital stay and home care concerns.
- Request assistance and review relevant policies and procedures prior to performing new or challenging skills.
- Maintain current CPR certification at Health Care Provider level and participate in self-review as requested by direct supervisor.
- Participate in project and committee work and assist the RN and interdisciplinary team in evaluating, planning, and implementing plans of care.
- Serve as a preceptor for new staff members and establish professional and respectful interpersonal relationships.
- Identify and communicate learning needs to the unit director/clinician/supervisor and perform assigned work in a timely and productive manner.
- Comply with established medication use policies and demonstrate awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department.
- Assure equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department and maintain accurate patient clinical records, execute physician?s orders, and maintain accurate problem-oriented nurses? notes.
- Serve as a resource for staff and other disciplines and request assistance to help in planning and prioritizing activities as needed.
- Comply with safety policies and procedures, including standard precautions.
- Completion of a Practical Nursing Program approved by the State Board of Nursing.
- Excellent communication skills necessary to effectively interact with patients, family members, visitors, and staff members.
- Basic computer skills necessary to input patient care orders and medical record documentation.
- 2 Years recent/relevant experience required.
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
- Act 33 Child Clearance w Renewal.
- Act 34 Criminal Clearance w Renewal.
- Act 73 FBI Clearance.
- Basic Life Support OR Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.
- Licensed Practical Nurse license.
Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state.
