Utility Worker

This position plays a crucial role in the Borough's landfill and transfer site operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing various tasks, including ground maintenance, operating light equipment, and plowing snow as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor the central landfill and ensure customer compliance with policies and procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service by answering questions and resolving complaints in a professional manner.
- Closely supervise disposal sites, ensuring they remain clean and functional.
- Operate semi-tractors and trailers to transport solid waste to the landfill, if qualified.
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including skid-steers, frontend loaders, and light trucks with snowplows.
- Develop and implement special projects to improve operations and efficiency.
- Construct and repair retaining walls, signage, retaining nets, and fencing as needed.
- Assist with the maintenance and repairs of transfer site buildings.
- Operate a wide range of hand and power tools, including chainsaws, weed eaters, and chop saws.
- Conduct snow removal operations and maintain grounds at all division properties.
- Assist in the scale house as required.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in a similar position, with relevant experience in operating heavy equipment, conducting snow removal operations, and maintaining grounds.
- Possession of a valid Class A, Commercial Driver's License issued by the State of Alaska and a valid Department of Transportation medical card is desired.
- Certification in Asbestos Identification is required.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and physical.
- Completion of required Incident Command System (ICS) courses in accordance with established Borough policy.
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough offers a competitive salary and the Alaska Supplemental Benefits System (SBS) in lieu of Social Security. This position is on-call and temporary, with limited hours and no benefits package.
