Job Overview Summary:

As a key member of our healthcare team, the Nursing Unit Director will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Nursing Unit, ensuring that residents receive the highest quality care in accordance with federal, state, and local standards. This role requires strong leadership and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Unit, including administrative, nursing care, personnel, staff development, resident's rights, committee, safety and sanitation, and inventory functions.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain written nursing policies, procedures, and reference materials to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in developing and implementing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services, including medical, recreational, and social services.
  • Implement plans of action to correct deficiencies and ensure that all nursing services personnel are performing their respective duties.
  • Coordinate all care delivered on a unit for twenty-four-hour period, seven days a week, and assure that all new staff receive appropriate orientation.
  • Assess staff ability to perform job tasks through resident care rounding, paperwork, and staff evaluation processes.
  • Provide in-service training to nursing staff as needed and ensure that all personnel are treated consistently with policies and applicable laws.
  • Assure the appropriate transcription of physician orders and provide follow-through on necessary actions.
  • Ensure that the physician has been alerted to changes in resident condition, lab work, etc., and obtain orders as indicated.
  • Responsible for completion of indicator log manuals and provision of CNA and Charge/Staff Nurse assignments for all three tours.
  • Member of the resident interdisciplinary care planning committee.
Requirements:
  • Must be a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in good standing and currently licensed by the state.
  • Must show ability to read and write in a legible and understandable manner.
  • Must speak and understand English.
  • Previous experience in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other healthcare-related facility.
  • Must be knowledgeable of general, rehabilitative, and restorative nursing and medical practices and procedures and laws, regulations, and guidelines governing long-term care.
  • Positive attitude toward the elderly.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Ability to read and write in English, communicate with residents, families, personnel, and support agencies, and remain calm under stress.
  • Physical and sensory requirements include bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, ability to communicate with residents and personnel, ability to distinguish smells, tastes, and temperatures, ability to head and respond to pages, ability to read and write in English, and ability to remain calm under stress.
