Reporting to the Manager of Medical-Surgical Telemetry, the Clinical Staff Nurse is responsible for organizing, planning, directing, coordinating, and providing high-quality, individualized patient and family-centered care. This role is grounded in the Watson Model of Care, focusing on a defined patient group while addressing special needs and considerations related to age and population-specific awareness.
This position requires a full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the core values and support the hospital's strategic plan and performance improvement initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe nurse employs the nursing process as a problem-solving model, utilizing their expertise to anticipate and address patient and family needs. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting thorough nursing assessments tailored to the patient population.
- Recognizing subtle clinical changes and adjusting care plans accordingly.
- Prioritizing and organizing patient care while ensuring adherence to planned interventions.
- Applying current literature and critical thinking to make informed clinical decisions.
- Fostering therapeutic nurse-patient relationships throughout the healthcare continuum.
- Respecting patient rights and conducting hourly patient rounds.
- Utilizing SBAR communication for effective hand-offs.
Documentation Responsibilities:
The nurse is responsible for comprehensive documentation of patient care, including assessments, interdisciplinary plans of care, implementation, evaluation, and adherence to hospital policies.
They anticipate variables affecting patient comfort and adjust interventions accordingly, assisting patients and families in maximizing their sense of control during recovery.
The nurse collaborates with Care Managers to coordinate interdisciplinary discharge planning and reviews all patient orders, communicating any significant changes in condition to the healthcare team.
Position Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred; Associate degree or Nursing Diploma acceptable.
- Experience: Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience, with a preference for 12 months in Med/Surg/Telemetry or Critical Care nursing.
- Licensure: Current California Nursing license.
- Certifications: Basic EKG competence, BLS, ACLS, and preferred certifications in Progressive Critical Care Nursing and Medical/Surgical Nursing.
- Skills: Bilingual skills preferred, basic computer skills, and completion of a Dysrhythmia Course certificate preferred.
All candidates are expected to maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the hospital's dress code, ensuring a safe and clean environment that meets regulatory standards.
Participation in quality and performance improvement initiatives is essential, along with assisting in the orientation of new staff and supporting the training of new employees.
