Mark Thomas & Company is seeking an experienced Senior Bridge Engineer to lead and coordinate the necessary tasks required to complete multiple projects in conformity to scopes of work.

The role of the Senior Bridge Engineer is to oversee the production elements of project delivery, with a greater emphasis on coordination and supervision.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in structural engineering, with a focus on reinforced concrete, steel, timber, and masonry design.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading large project teams to successful delivery of quality PS&E packages
  • Maintaining close attention to project work scopes, budgets, and schedules
  • Performing quality control measures and audits quality control measures for compliance
  • Communicating technical and promotional material to staff, clients, and subconsultants effectively
  • Leading technical aspects of proposal efforts regarding approach, design elements, and client needs
  • Independently preparing project plans, specifications, estimates, calculating quantities, performing structural calculations, and preparing reports and exhibits
  • Working closely with CAD drafters on the preparation of detailed plans
  • Mentoring and managing internal design team members
  • Providing QC support by following appropriate procedures as outlined
  • Providing support during the construction phase, exhibiting an understanding of construction methodologies, techniques, and associated working space
  • Reviews and uses design manuals, agency standards, and procedures
  • Prepares calculations using current engineering design software (SAP 2000, VBridge, VBent, WinABUD, Xtract, etc.)
  • Prepares detailed design and quantity calculations in a clear and organized manner
  • Provides ongoing training as directed or desired; participates in established internal training programs and development opportunities
  • Develops working relationships with outside contacts such as utilities, regulatory agencies, and subconsultants as directed by supervisor
  • Assists in the preparation of proposal packages and exhibits
  • Gains knowledge of scope, budgets, agreements, and financial reporting systems

Requirements include:

  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering, concentration in structures strongly preferred; MS in Civil or Structural Engineering a plus
  • 6-8+ years of progressive relevant structural engineering experience
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license required, or ability to obtain it within a year if registered in another state
  • Structural Engineer (SE) license a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate and lead design groups
  • Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of MS Office, including MS Word and MS Excel
  • Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of Auto CAD or MicroStation
  • Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of SAP 2000, VBridge, VBent, WinABUD, Xtract or similar design programs; CSI Bridge experience preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of general engineering principles, statics, dynamics of structures, and general engineering design
  • Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of structural design for reinforced concrete, basic knowledge of structural design for steel, timber, and masonry a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic project management skills and tools
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and delegate work assignments
  • Effective written and verbal skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities
  • Ability to prioritize tasks for a design team and manage a design team time to maximize efficiency

The offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location.

The base compensation range for this position is $117,000.00 - $170,000.00 per hour.
