The Department of Biology at UMass Amherst invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position to support a collaborative project on the landscape and population genomics of the parasitic weed, dodder (Cuscuta gronovii and C. campestris).

Role Description

You will lead efforts to collect dodder samples in agricultural and non-agricultural sites across the Northeast U.S., perform population structure and environmental association analyses, and examine host-dodder genotype interactions.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Lead publications and conference presentations resulting from current project work.
  • Develop new project ideas and submit grant proposals.
  • Work collaboratively with graduate and undergraduate students from UMass, Penn State, and Rutgers.
Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, please ensure you meet the following requirements:

  • A PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology or a related field prior to the start date.
  • Expertise in evolution, population genetics, and genomic analyses.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and publish quality scientific papers.
  • Good communication and writing skills.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions

This role requires working in standard office, lab, and fieldwork environments, including sitting for extended periods, carrying out molecular procedures, and conducting fieldwork in varying terrains.
