Job Summary

This role is responsible for assisting pharmacists in the execution of appropriate, safe, efficacious, efficient, and cost-effective pharmaceutical care in a specialty pharmacy setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with all phases of pharmacy services, including patient care, medication management, and insurance coordination.
  • Work with patients, providers, and insurance companies to obtain prior authorizations and resolve prescription-related issues.
  • Accurately read, interpret, and enter prescriptions in a timely manner, and route questionable prescriptions to the pharmacist for completion.
  • Prepare medication orders according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Assist the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in providing specialty pharmacy services to patients, including finding funding assistance, completing registration forms, and representing the pharmacy to providers and staff.
  • Package and label medications accurately and appropriately to minimize waste, and verify and monitor controlled substance inventories as required.
  • Complete charges from previous days' orders, assure wastage is charged appropriately, and eliminate waste.
  • Participate in quality and patient safety initiatives, identify potential areas for improvement, and contribute ideas or feedback in departmental meetings.
  • Complete documentation according to departmental standards, maintain cleanliness of pharmacy working areas, and manage specialty pharmacy medication and supply inventory.
  • Evaluate and authorize approval of prior authorization pharmacy requests, determine appropriateness for medications, and communicate decisions to physicians, staff, and management.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in a hospital or retail pharmacy setting
  • Preferred: Completion of technician training program, at least one (1) year of specialty pharmacy experience
Work Environment

This role is based at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado, and requires a 40-hour workweek.
