Position Overview

MedStar Health is seeking a dedicated Respiratory Care Specialist to enhance our team.

We are in search of a certified respiratory therapist who will deliver exceptional patient care by showcasing extensive knowledge in the respiratory field.

Key Responsibilities

Respiratory care is provided under the direction of physicians, adhering to established standards, practices, and protocols. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Working knowledge of human respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology relevant to respiratory care.
  • Expertise in the operation of respiratory care equipment and its application in clinical environments.
  • The ability to identify hazardous conditions related to respiratory care and implement corrective measures.

Patient Assessment

Conduct comprehensive assessments of the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural dimensions of patients, along with their educational needs, documenting findings appropriately.

When applicable, refer to competency validation documents for the populations served.

Therapeutic Services

Perform all respiratory therapy treatments and services, which include but are not limited to:

  • Application, operation, monitoring, and management of respiratory equipment.
  • Spirometry testing and Blood Gas Analysis.

Utilize principles of therapeutic communication, effective interviewing techniques, problem-solving, and crisis intervention during patient care.

Emergency Response

Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, ensuring airway maintenance and providing oxygen and ventilation through various devices, along with performing closed chest cardiac massage.

Operational Efficiency

Facilitate workflow efficiency by monitoring interdepartmental systems and processes, adhering to departmental policies and procedures, and recommending improvements as necessary.

Review electronic medical records and physician orders throughout the work shift.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • An Associate degree from an AMA accredited program in respiratory care, with an AAS Degree or higher.
  • Certification as a CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) or RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related healthcare field is preferred.
