Coding Specialist Job Summary

A Coding Specialist at Blount Memorial Hospital is responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant coding practices for rendering and billing providers. This role requires a strong understanding of coding guidelines, medical terminology, and billing processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assign ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS codes and modifiers in accordance with applicable guidelines
  • Comply with coding standards and regulations, including those set by the AMA, WHO, CMS, AHIMA, and AAPC
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure accurate and compliant coding practices
  • Stay up-to-date with coding updates, revisions, and new guidelines
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Coding Specialist - Professional (CCS-P) from AHIMA or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC
  • Strong understanding of health and medical record information
  • Proficient in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
  • Proficient in the use of coding/charging applications software
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with coding software, including NextGen, One Content, Paragon, and 3M
  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, HCC, modifiers, medical necessity, and billing processes
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
