Job Summary:

The Supervisor of Histology and Cytology Functions is a critical role within the Laboratory Pathology department at Mercy Health. This position is responsible for coordinating daily operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and overseeing the training and orientation of personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize working knowledge of procedures and theories in all areas of responsibilities.
  • Hire, onboard, and administer disciplinary actions of personnel as needed.
  • Complete schedules and manage timekeeping.
  • Implement policies and procedures as relates to specific area.
  • Oversee training and orientation of personnel.
  • Maintain standards of accreditation for their area.
  • Perform regular discussions on priorities and performance to staff via touch bases, check-ins, etc.

Licensing and Certification:

Must possess one of the following certifications from a nationally recognized agency:

  • HT Histotechnician Certification
  • HTL Histotechnologist Certification
  • CT Cytotechnologist Certification
  • PA Pathologist Assistant Certification

Education:

High School/GED (required)

Associates, Medical Laboratory Science/Biology/Chemistry/Microbiology (preferred)

Bachelors, Medical Laboratory Science/Biology/Chemistry/Microbiology (preferred)

Work Experience:

5 years experience in a pathology laboratory setting (required)

Previous experience in a leadership position in a pathology lab environment (preferred)

Working Conditions:

Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur

May be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse

May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights

May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids*

May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials*

May have periods of constant interruptions

General office environment

Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions

Prolonged periods of working alone

Other: Exposure to fumes and odors
