Job Summary:

The Dallas Independent School District is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Counselor (Districtwide) to join our team. As a key member of our district-wide counseling team, you will play a vital role in supporting the social, emotional, and academic needs of our students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide consultation and support to school administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents on student social and emotional needs.
  • Conduct needs assessments and evaluations of bullying, violence, and risky behaviors.
  • Provide individual and group counseling for at-risk students.
  • Refer students who require intense or specialized services to district or outside agencies.
  • Support new and returning students.
  • Coordinate and assist the campus-based counseling team in facilitating interventions and strategies to remove barriers to student success.
  • Develop and deliver guidance lessons to promote life skills, good character, resilience, and higher education goals.
  • Oversee and help determine SEL policies, monitor staff needs, and solicit feedback on staff support and coaching.
  • Recognize shifting cognitive and emotional needs of students and identify trends before they emerge.

Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Guidance Counseling and valid Texas counseling certificate.
  • A minimum of five years of counseling experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of employees, staff members, and the general public.
  • Competence with technology required in a professional office.
  • Ability to promote a positive, caring climate.
  • Process all levels of work on assignments from beginning to end.
  • Effective and efficient decision-making skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and assignments.
  • Knowledgeable of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and facilitating student growth.
  • Knowledgeable of social and emotional learning competencies, restorative practices, and positive behavior interventions.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach school staff and provide support with implementing SEL-based approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
