We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Upper Elementary Substitute Assistant to join our team at Near North Montessori School.
Job Summary:The Upper Elementary Substitute Assistant will provide support to our students, teachers, and classrooms, primarily at the upper elementary level (4th to 6th grade), when there is a faculty absence or when additional resources are needed.
Key Responsibilities:- Support Classroom Activities: Work closely with the Academic Coach to set a plan for each week and day based on planned and unplanned absences or schedule changes.
- Classroom Support: Support classroom activities, lessons, and work in concert with the other classroom teachers, and ensure classroom rules are followed.
- Student Support: Support students to complete work as assigned, guide and manage student behavior and social dynamics in the classroom, and help set up, clean, and maintain classroom environments.
- Communication: Review student information, emergency plans, events, lesson plans, and programming regularly with faculty and supervisor, and communicate observations of students to classroom teaching teams.
- Supervision: Supervise and guide students during transition times, recess, arrival, and dismissal, ensuring safe and respectful transitions.
- Childcare: Provide childcare for students as assigned on in-service days, conference days, and other working days during the school year.
- Field Trips: Join classes during the end of year overnight trip (4 days), working closely with faculty and students for a week of outdoor education, and may also be required to supervise other daytime and overnight field trips as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree: Required
- Prior Experience: Prior experience working with elementary-aged children, preferably in a school or educational setting; Montessori experience a plus
- Reliability and Flexibility: Reliable, flexible, and able to provide a high level of support to adults and children
- Diversity and Inclusion: Demonstrated skills to support a diverse student population, embracing the community's anti-racist practices
- Communication Skills: Effective communicator, verbal and written, with children and adults
- Physical Demands: Able to perform duties in-person within a school environment
