Key Responsibilities
The Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS)/Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Nurse plays a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care. This position involves:
- Monitoring and assessing the ECMO circuit and patient condition to ensure optimal care.
- Identifying and resolving issues related to mechanical circulatory support devices.
- Collaborating with healthcare professionals to implement individualized care plans.
- Utilizing scientific knowledge and specialized training to address clinical challenges.
Qualifications
Education
- A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field.
Experience
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in critical care is required.
- Preference for candidates with over 6 years of critical care experience.
- Prior training in ECMO, Impella, or IABP is advantageous, though required training will be provided.
Licensure and Certifications
- Current RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing, or a valid Compact RN license.
- Current certification in CPR from recognized organizations.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required upon hire.
Essential Skills
- Ability to serve as a clinical resource for team members.
- Expertise in mechanical circulatory support technologies.
Core Duties
- Continuously collect and analyze patient data to provide therapeutic interventions.
- Adjust ECMO settings to maintain parameters as established by the supervising physician.
- Conduct thorough assessments to anticipate and mitigate potential complications.
- Ensure accurate documentation and communication of patient status and treatment plans.
- Participate in research initiatives related to mechanical circulatory support.
