Position Overview:
The Piping Systems Specialist is responsible for the layout, fabrication, assembly, installation, and maintenance of piping systems, pipe supports, fixtures, and associated hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. This includes systems for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubrication, sprinkling, and production processes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Determine the appropriate type and size of pipes and related materials, including supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, based on project specifications.
2. Conduct site inspections to identify potential obstructions.
3. Strategically plan the installation sequence to circumvent obstructions and coordinate with other trades.
4. Utilize various tools to cut pipes, including pipe cutters, hammers, chisels, cutting torches, and pipe cutting machines.
5. Thread pipes using threading machines and bend pipes with pipe-bending tools and machinery.
6. Install pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceilings to secure piping.
7. Assemble and install a diverse range of metal and non-metal pipes and fittings using various joint methods, including threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.
8. Secure pipes to structures using brackets, clamps, and hangers with hand and power tools.
9. Install and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, and pneumatic and hydraulic controls.
10. Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure and monitoring gauges for indications of leaks.
11. Weld pipe supports to structural steel components.
12. Observe production machinery in the assigned area to identify malfunctions and operate machinery for verification if certified.
13. Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
14. Assist in the lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and workpieces during installation.
15. Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
16. Adhere to all safety protocols and project regulations.
17. Execute additional duties as required.
Basic Qualifications:
1. Relevant craft certification or equivalent experience.
2. Minimum of 6 months documented field experience at a Helper 3 level in the chosen craft discipline.
3. Proficient in reading and interpreting instructions and documentation, planning, and executing work activities independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Familiarity with commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
2. Ability to follow established guidelines to perform job functions.
3. Work under direct supervision, with primary functions not typically requiring independent judgment.
4. Capable of working within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
5. Make decisions based on measurable criteria and apply shop mathematics to resolve issues.
6. Plan work and select appropriate tools.
7. Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
8. Comfortable working at heights.
