Magnopus is a technology-driven company focused on content creation, founded by a talented group of Oscar-winning artists, designers, and engineers with diverse backgrounds in games, films, and other innovative fields. Our mission is to craft immersive experiences that bridge the gap between the physical and digital realms.

Position Overview
We are in search of a skilled Technical Artist to enhance our Los Angeles team.

Role Responsibilities
As a Technical Artist, your primary responsibility will be to assist our Unreal and Unity development teams, specifically aiding environment and effects artists in shader development, content generation, and optimizing runtime performance. Your collaboration will extend across various teams, including game designers, developers, and art directors, to breathe life into digital environments in real-time.

Key Duties Include:

  • Delivering technical guidance and solutions to environment, character, and UI artists.
  • Working collaboratively with different departments and management to create effective solutions for quality improvement and efficiency in iterations.
  • Investigating and recommending suitable tools and methodologies for projects.
  • Extracting clear requirements from creative briefs independently.
  • Establishing performance and memory targets and defining testing protocols.
  • Understanding the balance between quality and performance, developing solutions that optimize both.
  • Managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Contributing to and adhering to best practices in technical art, processes, pipelines, and tools.
  • Conducting runtime performance assessments as necessary and sharing findings with team members and management.
  • Participating in daily standups, breaking down tasks, and providing estimates during planning sessions.
  • Creating and maintaining detailed technical documentation as required.

Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Expertise in one or more industry-standard DCC tools (such as Maya, Max, Blender, Substance, Photoshop) for crafting 2D and 3D assets.
  • Proficiency in optimizing real-time mobile, AR, and VR projects for enhanced performance.
  • Experience with Unreal and/or Unity, including the creation and modification of Unreal blueprints, shaders, and custom Unity components.
  • Ability to utilize in-engine performance tools to identify and resolve performance issues.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (Perforce or Git) for managing work.
  • Knowledge of color workflows in real-time development.
  • Experience in writing and editing clear technical documentation.
  • Capability to plan, design, and implement solutions for a wide range of technical art challenges.
  • Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical team members.
  • A passion for learning new skills and techniques, both for personal growth and mentoring others.

Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following skills are advantageous:

  • Ability to create custom tools through scripting to automate essential tasks within DCC applications.
  • Experience in developing custom content and environments in UEFN.
  • Proficiency in lighting environments in Unreal and/or Unity across various artistic styles.
  • A keen interest in playing Fortnite.

Compensation
The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $130,000 annually, based on experience and internal equity.
