Job Summary

The Tax Specialist III is a key member of our team, responsible for coordinating various aspects of tax reporting, preparing trust, individual, and charitable tax returns, and interacting with Wealth Advisors on tax-related matters. This role will act as a mentor and subject matter expert for Tax Specialists I and II, reporting to the Tax and Financial Planning Team Lead.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all aspects of quarterly estimated tax payments and year-end taxes due for Fiduciary accounts, including review of payments prior to submission and communication with Wealth Advisors.
  • Analyze tax information, input data, and review return output to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure timely provision of tax information for accounts with fiscal year-end.
  • Prepare tax returns for trust and fiduciary accounts, including tax information letters sent to trust clients, returns for charitable entities, and individual income tax returns.
  • E-file various tax returns and track filing status.
  • Provide ongoing tax training to Wealth Advisors, Assistants, and other associates.
  • Deal directly with federal and state taxing authorities to resolve issues on behalf of clients.
  • Assist in mentoring Tax Specialists I and II.
  • Work with Advisors and Middle Office to ensure new trusts/estates are set up correctly for tax reporting.
Requirements
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Sophisticated software systems.
  • Excellent time and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Preferred knowledge of Smartsheet.
  • CPA or Enrolled Agent designation.
  • 3-5 years' experience in prior tax preparation or accounting.
