Visiting Assistant Professor and Director of Community-Engaged Research

We are seeking a highly qualified Visiting Assistant Professor and Director of Community-Engaged Research to join our team at the University of California, Santa Cruz. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the (H)ACER program, an innovative initiative that provides undergraduate students with opportunities to participate in community learning and scholarship.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and teach courses that incorporate community-based experiential and applied learning opportunities, particularly around environmental justice and land use.
- Train and mentor undergraduate student leaders in (H)ACER courses and relevant college clubs and initiatives.
- Support graduate student professional and pedagogical development relevant to community-engaged research and teaching.
- Supervise the Calabasas Community Garden Community Education Specialist.
- Write grant proposals for funding opportunities that support (H)ACER programs.
- Manage budgets and serve on the College leadership team.
- Build institutional relationships with other UCSC groups focused on community-based teaching and research.
- Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in environmental studies, anthropology, education, sociology, or a relevant discipline.
- Experience teaching at the college level.
- Experience mentoring and supervising students in community-based settings.
- Demonstrated experience teaching courses centered around community engagement.
- Evidence of a research record pertaining to community-based education, social movements, and environmental/climate justice.
- Fluency in written and spoken Spanish.
