Chef Manager II Job Description

Job Summary:

The Chef Manager II is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing culinary operations at our private school site. This role involves managing large-scale, high-volume food production, including cafeteria service, catering, micro-markets, and on-site food trucks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct food preparation and supervise at least two full-time employees in food preparation and service.
  • Provide leadership, training, and oversight for all unit activities to meet organizational and client objectives.
  • Train and manage kitchen personnel, supervise, and coordinate all related culinary activities, including food safety standards and allergen training.
  • Manage weekly purchasing, monthly inventory, and accurate cash handling.
  • Establish presentation techniques and quality standards, plan and price menus.
  • Ensure proper equipment operation, maintenance, and safety and sanitation in the kitchen.
  • Oversee special catering events and offer culinary instruction and/or demonstrations.
  • Perform administrative duties, including maintaining budgeted food cost and labor cost, ordering, and weekly and monthly reporting.

Requirements:

  • Culinary degree or certification, and/or seven to nine years of experience in a related position with comparable experience.
  • Possess required culinary expertise to execute forecasting, preparation, and safe storage of regular and catering menu items.
  • Knowledge of food safety, budget management, employee training, and development.
  • Time management, ability to multi-task, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral, reading, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Adhere to client and company protocols related to COVID-19 workplace safety and sanitation standards.
  • Lifting and moving of food, food containers, and other non-food items from floor position to no higher than one's own height.
  • ServSafe and Allergen Awareness Certifications required.
