Patient Care Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance and oversight of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Patient Care Technician is responsible for executing specific patient care tasks to ensure the safety and comfort of patients.
Unit Overview:
This unit comprises a total of 40 beds, including 12 beds in the CVICU and 12 beds in the SICU/Trauma/Neuro ICU.
The CVICU specializes in cardiac care for patients undergoing procedures such as open-heart surgeries, Impella placements, balloon pump management, STEMI and Non-STEMI treatments, and TAVR procedures.
The SICU/Trauma/Neuro unit provides critical care for patients recovering from surgeries, trauma incidents, strokes, neuro trauma, neurosurgical procedures, and traumatic brain injuries.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
A high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is necessary.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is preferred.
Completion of a Nurse Assistant program is required (alternative titles may include Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Patient Assistant Technician (PAT), all performing similar roles).
Alternatively, candidates may be currently enrolled in a nursing program and have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course.
Foreign-trained and licensed RNs relocating to the United States without a Michigan RN license are also eligible.
Completion of a Medical Assistant program, with or without experience, is acceptable.
At least one (1) year of prior experience in a similar role such as NA, PCT, PAT, or equivalent is required.
CERTIFICATIONS:
LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of BLS Heart Saver Certification is mandatory during orientation.
