Area Manager

BAE Systems USA is seeking an experienced Area Manager to join our team at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, VA. As an integral member of the manufacturing operations leadership team, you will be responsible for managing safe and environmentally responsible production activities for an assigned Area within our manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement production planning activities and systems to manufacture various products to meet customer delivery requirements.
- Manage production flow, labor resources, and planning to ensure efficient and effective production operations.
- Liaise with functional support groups to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
- Supervise both salary and union employees to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
- Assist in process investigations and develop/maintain manufacturing performance metrics.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to team members to foster an environment of trust, open communication, and creative thinking.
- Facilitate problem-solving and collaboration within the production area to drive results and improve processes.
- Lead the area to meet production goals while maintaining superior safety and environmental performance.
- Ensure team members have the necessary training to effectively contribute to the team.
- Focus the team on necessary activities to deliver against internal and external customer requirements.
- Coordinate with internal and external customers as necessary.
- Communicate team status, task accomplishment, and direction to stakeholders.
- Provide status reporting of team activities against production plans and schedules.
- Manage by metrics to meet deliveries and control manufacturing costs, including direct and indirect elements.
- Conduct performance appraisals and reviews of subordinate employees.
Requirements:
- Minimum 4 years of energetic work experience and/or a minimum of 8 years of work experience or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing production/manufacturing (union highly preferred) environment personnel and procedures, with great leadership skills.
- Experience presenting reports or meetings to multi-level management and employees.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office experience, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and some Access.
- A thorough knowledge of various manufacturing activities, including scheduling, personnel relations, budgeting, and workplace safety.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in propellant manufacturing.
- Experience in bulk chemical manufacturing processes.
- Experience in hazardous chemical operations.
- Supervisory experience within a unionized workforce.
Pay Information:
Full-Time Salary Range: $87,700 - $149,100
Please note that this range is based on our market pay structures. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors, including business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
