Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Gas Engineer I to join our team at Spire. As a key member of our construction engineering group, you will be responsible for designing and estimating construction projects for the replacement of existing natural gas facilities and the construction of new natural gas facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and estimate construction projects for natural gas facilities
  • Coordinate designs with GIS Analysts, Environmental Engineering, System Planning, Right of Way, Pipeline Safety and Compliance, Field Operations, and outside companies
  • Record and track improvement plans from preliminary to final stage through construction
  • Assist in daily coordination, assignment of work, and oversight of GIS Analyst and Construction Engineers
  • Work on special projects, including bridge crossings, railroad crossings, and design non-normal services
  • Specify and procure non-stock material required for main and service work
  • Review design and cost estimates for main and service work, delivery pressures, and justify proposed main work
  • Handle calls and correspondence regarding job and project status
  • Prepare necessary paperwork related to company procedures for gas main and service work
  • Attend utility meetings and pre-construction meetings to negotiate with representatives from engineering firms and municipalities
  • Attend site meetings to resolve specific issues or conflicts with company facilities and proposed improvements
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited school required
  • Engineering in Training certificate preferred
  • Valid driver's license
  • Minimum 0-2 years' engineering experience in natural gas or similar industries
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and ability to lead across functional teams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to deal effectively with internal peers, staff of acquired entities, and third-party service providers
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and use of Spire's systems
Work Environment

Work is normally performed in a shared, open-office environment. Hybrid in-office/remote work schedule. Work hours are typically 7:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. An additional 20 hours may be required per month to complete necessary work in areas of responsibility. Overnight travel is required to visit various work locations and attend business functions.
