Assistant Professor of Music - Applied Trumpet
Position Summary
Oakland University, within its esteemed School of Music, Theatre and Dance, is seeking candidates for a full-time, tenure-track role as Assistant Professor of Music specializing in applied trumpet. This position is integral to our expanding instrumental faculty.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruct both graduate and undergraduate students in applied trumpet.
- Teach courses in brass methods, chamber music, repertoire, and pedagogy.
Additional opportunities may arise based on the candidate's expertise, including:
- Performing with the resident Oakland Symphony Orchestra.
- Coordinating the jazz area and directing a jazz ensemble.
- Assisting with the youth brass band program.
Ideal candidates will hold a Doctoral degree in Trumpet Performance (ABD will be considered) or a related discipline, possess teaching and performance experience at the university level, and have knowledge of cornet performance practices to enhance instruction in our award-winning brass band.
The successful applicant is expected to advance their performance career while demonstrating a strong commitment to teaching, student recruitment and retention, and contributing to the field.

Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Trumpet Performance (ABD considered) or a related field, along with university-level teaching and performance experience, and familiarity with cornet performance practices.
