About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced veterinarian to join our team in the Department of Comparative Medicine. As a Staff Veterinarian, you will be responsible for maintaining a program of outstanding veterinary care for research animals, including diagnosis and treatment of illnesses, pain/distress management, and surgical consultation.
Key Responsibilities- Provide veterinary care to research animals, including diagnosis and treatment of a variety of health conditions, in multiple species.
- Advise research staff on proper veterinary care, specifically pain/distress management and perioperative care.
- Collaborate with faculty on research projects, including design and performance of animal models, as well as methods and techniques.
- Manage and develop best practices for a comprehensive animal biosecurity program, including quarantine, health surveillance, environmental monitoring, and animal imports and exports.
- Participate in IACUC and USDA inspections, as well as AAALAC site visits.
- Develop and implement training programs for comparative medicine staff and laboratory personnel.
- Graduation from an AVMA Council of Education accredited veterinary school (DVM or VMD degree) or graduation from a foreign veterinary school and successful completion of an education equivalence assessment certification program.
- Postdoctoral certification in Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM approved residency program) is preferred.
- 6 years of experience providing veterinary care, with 2 years of experience in biomedical research in an AAALAC accredited research facility after graduation from a laboratory animal medicine residency program.
- Licenses to practice veterinary medicine in the US and California, as well as ACLAM board certification and USDA accreditation.
We offer a competitive salary range of $147,284 to $235,664, as well as opportunities for professional growth and development in a dynamic and supportive environment.
