Position Overview - Inpatient Care Physician (California)

The Clinical Associate Physician plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive care to patients within hospital and clinic settings. This position encompasses various advocacy and educational responsibilities as designated by the Division Chief and the leadership of the Center.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: Medical Doctor (M.D.) with a degree from an accredited medical institution.
Required Skills/Knowledge: Proficient understanding of contemporary principles, methodologies, and procedures for medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment in the relevant specialty. Familiarity with legal and ethical standards governing medical care delivery is essential.

Ability to independently assess patient issues and formulate effective care plans is crucial. Candidates should be adept at integrating ethical considerations into patient interactions and discussions with families and healthcare teams.

Experience in supervising, mentoring, and training clinical professionals and students is required. A commitment to maintaining quality, safety, and infection control standards is expected. Continuous Medical Education is a personal commitment, ensuring up-to-date knowledge in the subspecialty.

Licenses and Certifications: Must be fully licensed and credentialed as an attending physician at Children's National Medical Center. Board certification or eligibility in the primary specialty is mandatory.

Functional Responsibilities

Commitment to Excellence: Deliver clinical services to patients at Children's Hospital and affiliated sites with professionalism and ethical integrity. Oversee the medical care team, ensuring effective patient management and enhancing continuity of care through timely communication and record-keeping.

Provide on-call services as required by division leadership. Engage in family-centered care, communicating compassionately and professionally, while making appropriate referrals to specialists and ancillary services.

Utilize established communication protocols and respond promptly to inquiries from team members and external medical providers. Clearly convey expectations to trainees regarding patient updates and significant clinical changes, fostering an environment where questions are encouraged.

Advocacy and Education: Actively participate in advocacy initiatives and contribute to public policy efforts aimed at enhancing pediatric health and well-being. Educate patients and families on treatment options, preventive measures, and care enhancement strategies.

Engage in hospital and university educational programs, providing constructive feedback to trainees and ensuring their effective orientation to patient care responsibilities.

Quality and Compliance: Adhere to established bylaws, policies, and procedures, focusing on continuous quality improvement and safety standards. Complete all clinical documentation promptly, complying with regulatory requirements and institutional policies.

Identify service-related issues and propose improvements. Collaborate in the development and revision of policies affecting medical practice and quality of care. Participate in special care teams and hospital committees, contributing to protocol evaluation and quality assurance efforts.

Organizational Responsibilities: Anticipate and address customer needs, demonstrating collaborative and respectful behavior. Partner with team members to achieve shared goals, remain open to diverse ideas, and contribute positively to the work environment.

Exhibit flexibility and a willingness to adapt, identifying opportunities for enhancing clinical and administrative processes. Make informed decisions using sound judgment and efficiently utilize resources.
