Job Summary

As a Code Enforcement Officer with the City of Beaumont, TX, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with City codes and ordinances, particularly within the Oaks Historic District. This position involves inspecting properties and structures, enforcing violations, and representing the City in Municipal Court. You will also interpret zoning, property maintenance codes, subdivision and landscaping regulations, and review building site plans for conformance to zoning regulations and landscaping ordinances. Additionally, you will provide research for general infrastructure data and historical information, answer public inquiries through research of city maps and records, collect property land use information, and compile information from tax records and property ownership maps. You will also make field verifications of land uses, collect and prepare data for computer entry, and perform photography work.

Responsibilities

Inspect properties and structures to ensure compliance with City codes and ordinances
Enforce violations and represent the City in Municipal Court
Interpret zoning, property maintenance codes, subdivision and landscaping regulations
Review building site plans for conformance to zoning regulations and landscaping ordinances
Provide research for general infrastructure data and historical information
Answer public inquiries through research of city maps and records
Collect property land use information
Compile information from tax records and property ownership maps
Make field verifications of land uses
Collect and prepare data for computer entry
Perform photography work

Requirements

Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by two (2) years of courses in general business or planning
Minimum two (2) years' experience in a related field
Certification as a Code Enforcement Officer preferred or must be obtained within one (1) year of employment
Valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record

Working Conditions

Normal office environment and outside field investigations in city car and on-site visits. Must be available to work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Must be available to work overtime as needed.
