Job Summary

NSC Technologies, LLC is seeking a skilled Shipfitter Specialist to join our team. As a Shipfitter Specialist, you will be responsible for laying out, positioning, aligning, and fitting parts of structural metal products with the use of regular supervision and while always adhering to industry safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Positions, aligns, fits, and welds parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools
  • Verifies conformance of work-pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes
  • Tack-welds fitted parts together
  • Lays out and examines metal stock or work-pieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met
  • Aligns and fits parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers
  • Locates and marks work-piece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications
  • Positions or tightens braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting
  • Studies engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences
  • Moves parts into position, manually or with hoists or cranes
  • Sets up and operates fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED and 4 or more years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to gain access to military installations
Working Conditions

The employee must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly and seek help with weights over 50 pounds. The employee must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs/vertical ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
