Your Role

As the inaugural Senior Mechanical Engineer within our Moses Lake factory engineering team, your extensive experience and technical proficiency will be pivotal in achieving our ambitious objectives for large-scale production of our innovative battery materials. You will play a crucial role in the commissioning of our first mass-scale manufacturing line. Your expertise will allow you to optimize our equipment strategy from a mechanical engineering standpoint, ensuring maximum uptime and reliability of our facilities. You will serve as the primary mechanical engineering resource, tackling a variety of challenges that arise daily. By leveraging your comprehensive knowledge of processes, operations, and mechanical engineering, you will effectively address production issues and propose enhancements to equipment and plant design in collaboration with your colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and troubleshoot mechanical systems including pumps, blowers, furnaces, and material handling equipment.
  • Lead and manage the Mechanical Integrity initiatives as part of our Process Safety Management (PSM) strategy.
  • Create detailed schematics, diagrams, and layouts for mechanical systems.
  • Establish inspection protocols and documentation for equipment health checks.
  • Generate CAD and fabrication drawings for mechanical fixtures and systems.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external fabrication partners.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses and feasibility assessments.
  • Review and validate mechanical design documents, including specifications and calculations.
  • Ensure compliance of all installations with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Develop and implement optimal maintenance strategies and equipment health check protocols.
  • Formulate a spare parts strategy for all equipment.
  • Utilize our operational database to create predictive maintenance procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members.
  • Stay updated on advancements in instrumentation and control systems, as well as market trends.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Over 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering, ideally within a manufacturing equipment engineering context.
  • Proficient in CAD software for mechanical design.
  • Experience in high-temperature furnace design.
  • Familiarity with codes, standards, and regulations applicable to chemical production facilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience with industrial processes and equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, and furnaces.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Integrity concepts in a PSM environment is preferred.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license is a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to pass a respirator fit test and wear respiratory protection as needed.
  • Willingness to wear personal protective equipment such as lab coats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed shoes.
  • Capability to lift items up to 50 lbs with assistance.
  • Ability to navigate long distances and remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Comfortable with reaching low shelves and entering confined spaces.
  • Willingness to climb stairs or navigate containment walls.
  • Proficient in precise handling of various materials.
  • Ability to operate office equipment in a fixed location.

Compensation
The starting base salary for this position ranges from $155,000 to $196,000, influenced by factors such as education, experience, and skills. This salary is part of Sila's comprehensive Total Rewards package, which may include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses. Please note that the salary range is subject to change.
